Missionaries of Charity is a Roman Catholic religious order established in 1950 by Mother Teresa of Calcutta. It consists of over 4500 sisters and is active in 133 countries.
Members of the order must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, and the fourth vow, to give “wholehearted and free service to the poorest of the poor”.
In Zürich the Missionaries of Charity provide emergency shelter for mothers with their children who find themselves in difficult circumstances, but they do not turn away others in need who turn up at their door. These services are provided free of charge to people regardless of their religion or social background.
